The aim of the project is to promote access to quality restorative justice processes in cases involving children and young people in contact with the law. To achieve this goal, justice sector professionals are trained, awareness activities and campaigns are organized, and best practices are shared with partner countries. The project management has been taken over by Anneliis Feenstra. The steering committee includes representatives from the Social Insurance Board, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor’s Office, experts, and practitioners. The CIRIC research group is represented by Koidu Saia.
At the meeting on May 13, 2024, the project team provided an overview of the latest activities of the i-Restore 2.0 project – conducted trainings and train-the-trainer sessions, and experience exchange with Romanian colleagues. The experiences and observations of the steering committee regarding the implementation of restorative justice were discussed. Upcoming activities include an autumn conference, (digital) tools for restorative justice, integration of restorative justice topics into curricula in collaboration with universities, continued involvement and training of volunteers, and youth engagement activities through the NGO Sa Suudad. The topics of restorative justice also align with the development of the Ministry of Justice’s RJ project, the application of RJ principles in bullying cases by the Ministry of Education and Research, and have reached the worktables as conflict resolution and organizational culture development topics in ethics committees and human resources departments of higher education institutions.
